BRIGHTON, Ont. – June 1, 2016 – Brighton Speedway’s 1/3-mile dirt oval roars back to live on Saturday, June 4 with one of the most anticipated events of the season. The Workman’s OK Tire School Bus Races return for the first of two dates at the speedway in 2016 presented by Lange and Fetter Ford and Hotch’s Auto Parts. Spectator gates will open at 5:00pm for the 7:00pm start time. Adult admission is just $12, seniors and children 13-17 are $10 and children 7-12 are $3.
The always-entertaining school buses race three and sometimes four wide on the racetrack. This isn’t your average trip to school. The race typically consists of 12 or more school buses racing around the track at top speed. Last year, track promoter Mark Rinaldi flipped his bus upside down on the front straightaway. In previous seasons, several buses have rubbed wheels and ended up in the creek off turn two. It’s sure to be a full night of excitement.
Also on the schedule are four of the track’s weekly racing divisions. The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models will be in action for their fifth race of the season. So far, four different drivers have gone to victory lane in the four races to begin the season. Trenton’s Charlie Sandercock holds a slim 20-point advantage over Brighton native Brandon Mowat, who has finished second in each of the past two weeks. Phil Potts, Steve Baldwin and Adam Turner complete the current top-five.
The Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds return to speed Saturday night after a thrilling race last week. Andrew Hennessy’s final corner pass of Kraig Handley gave him the point lead by a slim five point margin over Dan Ferguson. Handley sits third in the standings ahead of Derrick Greig and Doug O’Blenis, who complete the top-five.
Several Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks drivers will be in search of their first win of the season. So far, four different drivers have won in the first four races. Justin Ramsay, Wade Purchase, Doug Anderson and Brandon Murrell have all won feature events. Jonah Mutton sits second in the championship standings behind Ramsay and has a pair of second-place finishes this season. Purchase, Murrell and Leslie Mowat complete the top-five in the current championship standings. Mowat is also hungry for her first win since 2014.
In Bill’s Johns Comp 4 action, the field is looking to stop Trenton driver Tyler French. The driver of the No.0 has won three of four starts this season and has been dominant in the process. He’ll be forced to contend once again with Josh Read and Adam Flieler, who sit second and third, respectively, in the championship standings. Matthew Moore and Peter Moore, no relation, sit fourth and fifth in the current standings.
