For the first race at the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park Sebastien Bourdais, driver of the No. 11 Hydroxcut Chevrolet, would score the win as the checkered flew.
The Frenchman would have perfect pit strategy throughout the day and on his last pit stop took a splash of fuel on Lap 57 and would come out of pits in front of the race leaders, which then gave him clean air and could hold on for the win.
This is the KVSH Racing driver’s first top-five finish of the season.
Conor Daly, driver of the No. 18 Jonathan Byrd’s Hospitality Honda, would finish second in the race. He started the race in the 16th position and was able to battle up to the front throughout the race.
The final podium position would go to Juan Pablo Montoya, driver of the No. 2 Verizon Chevrolet, he qualified for the race in the third position.
Rounding out the top-five was Graham Rahal, driver of the No. 15 United Rentals Honda and Helio Castroneves, driver of the No. 3 Hitachi Chevrolet.
Sixth through tenth were as follows: Carlos Munoz, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Charlie Kimball, Tony Kanaan and Alexander Rossi.
Max Chilton, driver of the No. 8 Gallagher Chevrolet, would bring out the first caution when he spun and make contact with the wall that ended his day early. Chilton would finish 21st.
The second caution would come out for James Hinchcliffe, driver of the No. 5 of the Arrow Electronic Honda, on Lap 41 as he would spin in Turn 7 and make contact. The Canadian had been running in the top-five would finish in 18th position.
Will Power, driver, of the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet, would have engine issues and lost his right rear tire. He would finish in 20th position.
Scott Dixon, driver of the No. 9 Target Chevrolet, was running in the top-five came out of the pits after a stop and would encounter shifting issues and have to come back down pit road for repairs. He would end up in 19th position.
