TRENTON, Ont. – June 6, 2016 – Charlie Sandercock drove the Bellevue Fabricating/Deerhaven Farm and Garden/Newham Enterprise No.57 Pro Late Model to a fourth-place finish on a lightning fast racetrack at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night.
Sandercock lined up 10th for the 30-lap event following his win last week and a sixth-place tally in his heat race. A tacky and fast racetrack made it difficult for the No.57 team to move forward against the stiff field of competition.
“The track was good. It wasn’t all that great in the heat races, but the track crew did a fantastic job scraping it off, clearing it and getting it to be a good racing surface for the feature. Hats off to them for taking care of that,” Sandercock said.
The Trenton, Ont. driver fought to the seventh spot on lap 16, passing Kyle Sopaz in the process. A caution on lap 19 tightened the field and gave Sandercock and opportunity to move forward. He did just that, passing three cars and advancing to the fourth spot on lap 20.
“If it wasn’t for the lap 19 caution, I don’t think we would have got stacked up again,” said Sandercock. “We lucked out on that caution because we gained a couple positions. It for sure helped us on Saturday.”
Over the final five laps, Sandercock had an excellent battle with Brandon Mowat for third. With Mowat on the bottom lane and Sandercock on the top, the two drivers exchanged the position twice, before Mowat eventually claimed the final podium position at the checkered flag.
“Brandon and I had a really good race at the end. Those guys have stepped up their game big time in the last year and a half or so. They’re due for a win,” commented Sandercock.
The fourth-place win was a strong finish for Sandercock given all of the circumstances. It was the No.57 team’s fifth-straight top-five finish to start the year at Brighton.
“Keeping consistent is going to be key, especially with the competition we’ve had this year. Five weeks, five different winners and it looks really good on the class,” Sandercock said. “The racing’s been good. It will keep things nice and tight if everybody keeps finishing the way they are.”
Sandercock is currently tied with Brandon Mowat for the points lead with 830 points apiece through five races this season. The No.57 race team returns to action next Saturday, June 11 for week six at Brighton.
