The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is off this weekend, but that didn’t stop a couple young drivers from signing deals to make their series debuts in the next race.
Former NASCAR Next driver Dylan Lupton and young Cody Ware will each attempt their Sprint Cup Series debuts at Sonoma Raceway next weekend. Lupton will drive the No. 93 Toyota for BK Racing with sponsorship from Elk Grove Toyota and Bell Bros. Plumbing Heating & Air, while Ware will drive the No. 55 Carport Empire Chevrolet for Premium Motorsports.
While neither driver boasts a lot of experience in NASCAR’s top-three series, both drivers have scored their best NASCAR XFINITY Series finishes on the road course at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Ware made his NASCAR debut at Mid-Ohio in 2014, and finished 14th. Lupton finished ninth at Mid-Ohio the following year driving for Athenian Motorsports.
Both Lupton and Ware have made starts in the NASCAR XFINITY Series this year. Ware has made four starts for his dad’s Rick Ware Racing, and one for BJ McLeod Motorsports with a best finish of 31st twice. Lupton has made two starts this season for RSS Racing with a best finish of 19th.
Lupton has prior experience at Sonoma, unlike his rookie compadre Ware. Lupton has two NASCAR K&N Pro Series West starts in Wine Country with a best finish of third in 2014. The two-time K&N West winner will have to rely on his prior Sonoma experience in order to have a successful debut.
With 41 drivers entered in the race and neither driver guaranteed a spot in the race, the debutante drivers will have to fight for one of the 40 spots to race in the Toyota/Save Mart 350 next Sunday.
