As we hit the two month mark of the 2016 Sunset Speedway GGC Construction Corporation Mini Stock season, here is a glance at what has happened by the numbers.
1 – Only one driver has finished each of the four Dash for Cashes in the top-five – Warren Paxton
1 point is all that Eric Yorke leads Nic Montanari by in the track points standings.
2 drivers have finished each of the six heat races this year in the top-five – Jake Watson and Gerrit Tiemersma.
2 drivers have won two features this year – Andy Kamrath and Yorke.
2 – Kamrath leads all drivers with Dash for Cash victories with two. Notably, he’s the only driver to have won multiple Dashes this year.
3 drivers have won multiple heats this year – Montanari, Yorke and Andy Kamrath.
3 drivers have won a Dash for Cash this year – Kamrath, Paxton and Yorke.
3 drivers have scored a top-10 in each feature this season – Terry Woodley, Montanari and Watson.
4 top-fives is the most a driver has scored in features this year, with three drivers accomplishing the feat – Montanari, Cory Young and Yorke.
4 is the best average feature finish produced by the crop this year. Montanari has achieved the average while running all six races, while Paxton and Kamrath have each only ran four of the six this year.
4.17 is Eric Yorke’s average finish as the points leader, despite having engine issues in the first night of racing.
5 drivers have a feature this year
6 drivers have won a heat race this year
6 drivers have started each of the four Dash for Cashes this year
9th was Samantha Shaw’s finish on opening night. Unfortunately, she hasn’t been out since a wreck at Spring Velocity as a result of injury.
12 drivers have scored a top-five in a feature this year
14 straight top-10s is the mark set by Woodley dating back to last season. He has an average finish of seventh in the six features, with a best finish of fifth on two occasions.
16 drivers have scored a top-five in a heat race this year
16 points separate the top-five drivers in the points standings.
17 – Gerrit Tiemersma, driving the No. 17 Mustang, will always remember June 17 as that was the night he got his first career feature victory.
17 drivers have scored a top-10 in a feature race this year
30 – Montanari made the most of opening night on April 30 as he took the lead on Lap 10 on opening night, never looking back en route to his first career feature victory.
33 – Paxton, driving the No. 33 Blue Mountain Honda of Collingwood Honda Civic, picked up the win on June 11 for his first of the season after taking the lead late from Watson.
35 – Kamrath, driving the No. 35 LONDON RECREATIONAL RACING, JASON WITTY RE/MAX, SEATON STRUCTURES, AM ROOFING, BLUE MOUNTAIN HONDA OF COLLINGWOOD, WAKE WORK RACE CLOTHING, IMAGEWRAPS.CA, SUPERCLEAN, CASTROL, BRANDON’S LANDSCAPES, WIRED AND READY ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING, JF KITCHING AND SONS HAULAGE AND GEORGINA AUTO GLASS Honda Civic, scored the victory in the Spring Velocity, and then came back the following night on May 28 to score the win.
36 – The driver of the No. 36, Young, has been very consistent this year with only two finishes outside of the top-five for an average finish of 5.5
51 – Yorke, driving the No. 51 Can-Alignment Motorsports, Milton Napa Auto Parts, J&D Tire, Solex Steel, McKeown Collision, Partimer Signs, Ancaster Embroidery, Country Girl Designs, Cabral Race Promotions and Skytec Rentals Nissan, is the only driver to have scored two points-paying feature victories so far this year. Notably, both feature wins came after getting the lead in the opening laps.
68 – Brandon Crumbie drove his No. 68 Mustang to back-to-back top-six place finishes to start the 2016 season, but failed to do so in his next two starts.
76 – Chris Allard and his No. 76 entry has made an impression on the Mini Stock field since moving up from the Mighty division as he has three top-10 finishes in four starts, with a best finish of fourth.
85 – Charlie Smith, driver of the No. 85 Neon, has only posted one finish outside of the top-10 in his five starts this season.
88 – Driving his No. 88 Mustang, Jake Watson has caught the attention of many fans recently with three straight top-five finishes, including leading the majority of the feature on June 11.
98 – Montanari, driving the No. 98 HIGHWAY TECHNOLOGY, SELECT DELIVERY, DR.JAY PERTOFF AT MAPLE RIDGE DENTAL AND PERMATEX Mini Stock, made the most of opening night as he took the lead on Lap 10 on opening night, never looking back en route to his first career feature victory.
