Chase Elliott will be getting some extra track time ahead of this weekend’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.
The rookie phenom has competed in road course races in the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, however this will mark his first time on a road course in the Cup Series coming on the tough 10 turn, 1.99 mile road course in California’s wine country.
For extra track time, Elliott will be competing for HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks in the K&N Pro Series West Chevy’s Fresh Mix 200 on Saturday.
Elliott will also have his Hall of Fame father Bill Elliott spotting for him during Saturday’s K&N West race. The older Elliott has one win and 10 top five finishes to his credit on the road courses for his career. Elliott said he is looking forward to spotting for his son this weekend at Sonoma.
“I used to spot for him on the late model side of things,”Elliott explained, “so getting back on the radio with him is something I’m looking forward to.”
Chase Elliott has seven starts on the road courses throughout his young NASCAR career, winning once at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in the Truck Series in 2013 to go along with five top 5’s and seven top 10’s in those starts.
