NASCAR had their hammer out following the race weekend at Iowa Speedway, handing out a total of seven different penalties to crew chiefs for rules infractions.
John Hunter Nemechek’s No. 8 Chevrolet was too lowin post-race inspection, resulting in the loss of 10 points in both the driver and owner standings, as well as crew chief Gere Kennon being fined $6,000 and placed on probation till the end of the season. As a result, Nemechek dropped from sixth to ninth in the series standings. The second generation driver started the race on pole, finishing 12th.
Additionally, six XFINITY crew chiefs were placed on probation till the end of the year following a P2 Level penalty for right-side body panel modifications found during pre-race inspection. The list includes:
- Kevin Meendering, crew chief for JR Motorsports’ No. 1 Chevrolet driven by Elliott Sadler
- Jason Burdett, crew chief for JRM’s No. 7 Chevrolet driven by Justin Allgaier
- Chris Gayle, crew chief for Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 Toyota driven by Sam Hornish Jr. on Sunday
- Chris Gabehart, crew chief for JGR’s No. 20 Toyota driven by Erik Jones
- Brian Wilson, crew chief for Team Penske’s No. 22 Ford Fusion driven by Brad Keselowski on Sunday
- Dave Elenz, crew chief for JRM’s No. 88 Chevrolet driven by Alex Bowman on Sunday
