The wait and anticipation are finally over for Zachery Sprung as he’ll be hitting Sauble Speedway on Saturday July 2 for his first event of the season.
“I’m absolutely excited going into the season,” he commented. “This is a big year for me. I’ve got a new car, new number, new colours – everything people have seen of me in the past two years has entirely changed as my motivation to get to the front grows each and every week.”
With success on a weekly basis, Sprung says he hopes to finish in the top-five in points this year, while getting his first career victory. He notes each season he goes into the year with a goal and tries his “absolute hardest to get there”.
Sprung knows his way around the pits and feels he can get the job done as he’s been involved in racing for awhile. He got stated as a crew member at the age of 10, working on Doug Wilson’s Limited Late Model.
“I just worked around the shop helping out here and there, to getting in the pits and working on a late model and super late model car learning all the ins and outs,” he said. “I’m now applying it to my own racing career.”
So far in his career, he says the biggest thing he’s learned is everyone at the track, from the fellow racers to the crew members to the track officials, is like a second family to him.
“They’re willing to help out with anything,” he added. “We need also to keep a level head driving as threes no reason to purposely cause damage to anybody else as racing is a very expensive hobby.”
Going into the year, Sprung thanks his sponsors for their support: GBMS, Idol and Anchor Tattoo, Pro Sport Fan Shop, Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet of Owen Sound, Bear Wheel and Brake, Pinkertons CarQuest, MacDonnell Excavating, Tom Carruther’s Property Maintenance.
Be sure to make it out to Sauble Speedway on July 2 to take in Sprung’s first race of the season. Details can be found at http://www.saublespeedway.ca.
