BRIGHTON, Ont. (June 29, 2016) – Brighton Speedway is excited to celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday with it’s annual Mid-Season Championships presented by Brighton Automotive and The Community Press and a special fireworks show from Mystical Distributing. Drivers in all four divisions in action will have the opportunity to set a new track record in single-car time trials on Saturdaywhich begin at 5:00pm. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.
Last season, three drivers set new track records. Dan Ferguson set a new track record in Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified qualifying with a lap of 15.598 seconds. Justin Ramsay’s lap o 16.573 seconds was a new track record for the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks while Brady Greer’s time of 18.175 seconds was a new Bill’s Johns Comp 4 record.
All four divisions will compete in extra distances races. Many of Brighton’s Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Model drivers will be competing in their second straight 50-lap race. The Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds battle for 40 laps in their second longest race of the season. The Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks face a 25-lap distance and the Bill’s Johns Comp 4s will battle for 20 laps.
Charlie Sandercock set fast time in Pro Late Model time trials last year with a lap of 14.371 seconds, but bettered the mark last week in Go Nuclear Late Model Series time trials with a lap of 14.173 seconds. Brandon Mowat, Greg Belyea and Tyler Rand were all under the 2015 mark one week ago, which should make things interesting depending on track conditions. Sandercock enters the race with a 35-point advantage over Picton’s Adam Turner.
In Canadian Modified competition, Andrew Hennessy holds a 40-point advantage over Ferguson. Kraig Handley, Derrick Greig and Doug O’Blenis complete the current top-five in the standings.
Meanwhile, Ramsay leads the current Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks standings over perennial rival Doug Anderson while Brandon Murrell, Wade Purchase and Jonah Mutton complete the current top-five. Austin Reid is the top-rookie in the standings in the sixth spot.
Tyler French remains the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 leader ahead of Josh Read and Adam Flieler, all of which have at least one win this season. Matthew Moore and Peter Moore (no relation) round out the top-five.
Spectator gates will open at 4:00pm with the early event start time of 5:00pm for time trials. Adult admission is $15 for the special event, Youth(13-16)/Seniors are $13, Children (7-12) are $4 and a Family Pass is $40. Children 6 and under are always free.
