On Saturday July 2, the Southeast Super Trucks rolled into Hudson, NC, home of Tri-County Motor Speedway, for the series’ seventh stop of the schedule.
The first practice seen South Carolina’s own Tinm Lollis top the speed charts, while the second practice last season’s champion Lee Tissot picked up the pace and set the fast time. The teams made adjustments and went back out for the final practice, trying to get their trucks dialed in. It was Lollis who found his way back to the top.
Mart Nesbitt surprised everyone as he picked up the pace quite a bit and qualified on the pole for the nights feature. Nesbitt rolled a Five for the invert and the top five inverted, leaving Tissot to start on the pole with Brandon Setzer starting on the outside.
As the green flag fell on the 12 truck field, it only took one lap before the first caution came out. Current 2016 points leader Ricky Bowers was caught up in a wreck on the track in turn 2 with Jason Cochran. As the field set to go back to the green flag, Tissot once again showed the way, but it was series veteran Kevin Leicht who quickly worked his way to the second place trailing Tissot.
The second caution came out on lap 21, as Tim Lollis spun off turn four. Tissot once again led the field back to the green, but before he could the skies opened up. After the staff went to work drying the track, the trucks lined back up on the track to try and finish the race. The caution came back out just a few laps later when the trucks of Brandon Setzer and Ed Surrett got together on the front stretch.
On the restart, it was Kevin Leicht who jumped out front this time and lead the field for a few laps just before Tissot was able to get back around and out front. Nesbitt began working his way up towards the front like a rocket. Meanwhile the battle for third began to heat up as Matt Leicht and Jamie Altop raced side by side lap after lap.
The next caution came back out on lap 61 when Lollis experienced mechanical issues and broke a rear end. Tissot went on to capture the victory over Nesbitt, Altop, Matt Leicht, and Tony Warren
