BRIGHTON, Ont. (July 7, 2016) – The sixth week of racing in the Brighton Speedway Kiwanis of Trenton Kart Klub resumed on Thursday night with 36 karts signed in to the pit area. The fastest night is Kart Klub history produced some of the best racing to date in all seven divisions.
Junior Restricted
The most exciting finish of the night came in the Junior Restricted main event. Kyle Anderson took the lead on lap two from pole sitter Cole Perry after Perry led the opening circuit. Anderson was then chased by Nathan Rinaldi, who was glued to the back bumper of the No.17. Rinaldi bobbled in turn two, allowing Anderson to pull out to a 10-car length lead, but it was erased by the only caution of the race on lap eight. When the race resumed, Rinaldi did not make the same mistake twice and followed within a car length of Anderson until the final lap. On the back straightaway, Rinaldi set up the winning pass in turns three and four when he tapped Anderson’s left rear just enough to move him off the bottom groove and won the drag race to the checkered flag off turn four for his second win of the season.
Junior Restricted Results (15 Laps): 1. 3 Nathan Rinaldi, 2. 17 Kyle Anderson, 3. 23 Cole Perry, 4. 77 Anthony Rinaldi, 5. 16 Jordan Burrows.
Junior Sportsman 2
The Junior Sportsman 2 division also produced a thrilling feature. Polesitter Emily Peterson was the early leader but under pressure from Cole McKeown and Kaitlyn O’Blenis. McKeown took the lead on lap four while O’Blenis pressured Peterson for second and eventually took the runner-up spot on lap nine. By that time, McKeown had already checked out to a full straightaway lead and grabbed the checkered flag for his first win of the season.
Junior Sportsman 2 Results (15 Laps): 1. 11 Cole McKeown, 2. 23k Kaitlyn O’Blenis, 3. 17 Emily Peterson, 4. 48 Ryan Greig, 5. 07 Raiah Lough.
Junior Sportsman 1
Carson Down was the king of the track in the Junior Sportsman 1 feature as the front row starter led all 15 laps to claim his third win of the season. Down faced repeated challenges from the entire field that included James Markland, Cameron Bristown and Keira Turner. Markland stayed with the race leader, but couldn’t muster enough momentum to take the lead as Down drove to victory lane.

Rookie 2
In Rookie 2 action, polesitter Nathan Shorts had the kart to beat on this night, but wouldn’t be tamed as he dominated the field for his first win of the season. Shorts had opened a straightaway lead by the time of a lap four caution. Koen O’Hara ran second before Emma Terpstra took over the runner-up spot on lap seven. The field maintained their position over the final three laps allowing Shorts to claim the victory.
Rookie 2 Results (10 Laps): 1. 20 Nathan Shorts, 2. 22 Emma Terpstra, 3. 83 Koen O’Hara, 4. C1 Carson Lemanis, 5. 76 Ashton Leclair.
Rookie 1
The Rookie 1 main event saw a couple of lead changes as Ryan Greig led the opening lap. However, Carson McKee and Jace James chased Greig’s No.48. On lap 4, James took the lead and never looked back despite the best efforts of McKee, who ran second after Greig’s kart suffered a power failure. Brooklyn Bowers raced to the third position and a podium finish.

Box Stock 2
The Box Stock 2 feature took a couple of tries to get off the ground with a pair of cautions on the opening lap. Once the drivers sorted themselves out it was Tyson Cooper who held the lead after starting on the pole. Max McDonald followed in close pursuit and looked for a moment to have a run on Cooper’s No.87jr. Cooper was too flawless over the final five laps and drove to his second Box Stock 2 win of the season.

Box Stock 1
A fury of activity in the Box Stock 1 feature, the track’s entry level division, produced all kinds of passing. Colby Ellis was the early leader, but it was Colton Lockridge driving to the lead early on. He would not go uncontested, however, as Gabe Miller rocketed to the front in his No.51and took the lead on lap eight, leading the final two laps for his second straight win.
Box Stock 1 (10 Laps): 1. 51 Gabe Miller, 2. 5c Colton Lockridge, 3. 20 Nathan Shorts, 4. 15 Gordie Miller, 5. 1 Coleson Gregory, 6. 89 Colby Ellis, 7. 10 Chris Lough.

The Brighton Speedway Kiwanis of Trenton Kart Klub will be featured during Saturday’s VanZuylen Tire & Alignment and Electro Cables Southern Ontario Sprints event.
