It was announced on July 12 Luca Filippi would be getting back behind the wheel of the No. 19 Dale Coyne Honda, for this weekend’s Honda Indy Toronto. Filippi was last inside the car for the first four races of the 2016 IndyCar Season before being replaced right before the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis in May. The Italian driver will join teammate Conor Daly in practice for the race on Friday morning.
“I’m very excited to be back with Dale Coyne Racing this weekend and to have the chance to race in the Honda Indy Toronto again,” Filippi said via a team release. “I want to thank IMPCO Technologies, the ComfortPro team and Dale Coyne for giving me this opportunity. It’s one of my favorite races, not just because I finished on the podium in Toronto last year, but because it’s one of the best events on the schedule and I love to race on street circuits. I can’t wait to get back on track.”
He had his career best finish of second place a year ago at Toronto driving a Chevrolet for CFH Racing. He currently has 22 career IndyCar starts under his belt he hopes this weekend will be a chance to show teams his talent for more seat time in the remaining races of the season.
