A number of key names among NASCAR’s staff have been promoted to new positions across the sport.
The first promotion comes on former NASCAR driver Elton Sawyer. Sawyer most recently served as competition director for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, but will now move into a role of Vice President of Officiating and Technical Inspection. Sawyer will leave his post in the Truck Series after running the series for two years.
According to NASCAR, Sawyer will “oversee multiple functions to ensure NASCAR events are the best in motorsports, including inspection/officiating; officials training and development; and the events and transportation groups.”
Replacing Sawyer in his position as Truck Series director will be current NASCAR Touring Series competition director Brad Moran. Moran, who served as director for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series (now Pinty’s Series) from 2008 to 2012, moved into his role directing each of the Touring Series in 2012. The Canadian will bring 25 years of experience in racing to the table including serving as owner for the now defunct Barrie Speedway in Ontario.
While Moran leaves his spot in the Touring Series, Brandon Thompson (pictured) will take over as Senior Director.
John Probst will join NASCAR as Managing Director of Competition and Innovation. Probst formerly worked as technical director for both Chip Ganassi Racing and Red Bull Racing. Before that, he was a supervising engineer with Ford Motor Company for 11 years.
Among NASCAR’s other announced promotions are George Grippo as Managing Director of Competition Technology and Timing & Scoring and Jusan Hamilton as Manager of Racing Operations & Event Management.
Each promotion will take place gradually throughout the 2016 season.
