As a driver, Scott Steckly has done well on the streets of Toronto with some strong performances. This weekend, though, he enters the weekend in a slightly different role.
Rather than driving, he’s entering three cars as an owner – Alex Tagliani, Brett Taylor and John Farano.
While Tagliani has tons of laps behind the wheel of a car, it only marks the second series start for Taylor and 11th for Farano. The differences don’t stop there as Taylor makes the move after sportscar and go-karting experience, while this is Farano’s first start since 2011. Notably, both of the 22 Racing drivers ran into separate issues during the series’ practice session on Friday.
“The biggest thing with a guy that does not have a lot of experience is telling him to try and stay calm,” Steckly told OnPitRoad.com. “Be aware of everything going around you and race the race track, not worrying about the other competitors and just stay focused on what you’re doing.”
With his own experience, the trouble shoot he found to watch for in sharing with others is turn three at the end of the backstretch on the Lakeshore.
“You have to protect from guys trying to outbreak and when they try, they end up wheel-hopping over the edge sideways and if you get in a wreck down there it’s not good,” he said.
Even though he’s not racing himself, excitement is in the air for the series with this being the first race in Ontario’s capital since 2011. Steckly says while it’s fun, you have to be careful as it’s a tight course and if something happens you could easily be caught up in the midst of it.
