Running up front throughout the Pinty’s Grand Prix of Toronto, Kerry Micks put in a solid run en route to a fifth place finish.
“It went great, any top-five is great,” he told OnPitRoad.com. “We started ninth and got up to fifth. Johnsonville, Leland, Avenue Auto Parts – all these people that support us and help us get it there – just really happy with the finish. I think we had a top-three car and ended up fifth.”
For Micks, it marks his first top-five since finishing third at Trois-Rivieres in 2014. Since then, Micks has only posted a pair of top-10s in the following 10 races.
The veteran driver says the key has been getting the handling issues sorted out underneath him.
“It’s been years to figure out and now I’m starting to finally get there,” he said. “We’ll adjust a little bit more and get the car where I need to so I can run the same times that they’re running. Then it’s left up to the driver.
“So struggling a little on the set-up, but we’re a lot stronger than we were.”
While he will miss the next two races with Mark Dilley running the ovals behind the wheel of the No. 02 Leland Industries/Johnsonville Sausage/Avenue Auto Parts Ford, Micks will hope to keep the strong momentum rolling next months on the streets of Quebec.
Notably, when he hasn’t been running the Pinty’s Series car, he’s been racing in the Avenue Auto Parts Super Late Model division at Sunset Speedway. He posted a fifth place finish this past weekend.
