Starting tail end on the field, Matt Brabham quickly made his way to the front en route to scoring the victory in Race 1 of the Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks presented by Traxxas Toronto weekend.
“It was a great race,” he told OnPitRoad.com. “I had a lot of fun. Stadium Super Trucks always put on an awesome show and I think we did that today. It was great racing. We had a lot passes for the lead, great racing throughout, and it’s great to get the win. Traxxas 1-2 with Sheldon – he drove a great race and it was great battling him for the win.”
Brabham, who made his super truck debut last year, has grown as a driver and now has two victories under his belt as he won earlier this year at Detroit.
He didn’t have it easy in Toronto, though, as defending series champion Sheldon Creed was on his back bumper through the final couple of laps, trying to set up a pass.
“It went pretty good,” Creed said. “I made pretty quick work there beginning and just got beat today. A little frustrating but going to go back, figure out a couple things with the truck – I am locking brakes pretty bad – and come out swinging tomorrow.”
Creed added the passes can be tough to make, with the backstretch being the only spot you can make a clean pass.
“The rest of the turns it’s about sticking a nose in there, and can’t be afraid to rub,” he added.
Paul Morris wound up third, followed by Robby Gordon and Toby Price.
Dustin Scott finished sixth, followed by PJ Jones, Sara Price, Paul Tracy, Russell Boyle, Max Papis and Bill Hynes.
