Craig Lowndes has equalled Mark Skaife’s record as the most successful Holden driver of all time with his victory at the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint.
In doing so Lowndes also brought up his 105th career win and once again denied teammate Jamie Whincup his 100th Supercars win. Lowndes now sits alongside Skaife as the most successful driver for Holden, each driver having registered 80 wins for the manufacturer.
Whincup finished second for the second time this weekend to further extend his lead of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship ahead of Shane van Gisbergen, Mark Winterbottom and Lowndes. Chaz Mostert continued his recent good form to finish third.
Lowndes got away to a flying start in today’s 200km race and never looked troubled as he cruised to his 12th win at Queensland Raceway – another record for the six-time Bathurst champion. It was his second win this season and capped off a strong weekend after finishing third in yesterday’s 120km race.
The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship will now move to Sydney for the Red Rooster Sydney SuperSprint from 26-28 August.
