Since getting his first win this year, there’s been no stopping Charlie Smith as he’d score another on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
The action started out a little messy with Jake Watson getting sideways during the first heat, causing Nic Montanari to check-up and get spun by Terry Woodley.
Smith picked up the win ahead of Warren Paxton, Cory Young, Brandon Crumbie, Eric Yorke, Watson, Woodley and Montanari.
Andy Kamrath picked up the win in the second heat ahead of Gerrit Tiemesrma, Samantha Shaw, Chris Allard, Dave Crumbie, Brandon Crumbie and Stefan Woyslaw.
The fast qualifier’s dash saw Woodley spin on the backstretch on Lap 6. Smith went for the daily double ahead of Kamrath, Paxton, Young, Brandon Crumbie, Yorke, Thomas Dunn, Tiemersma, Dave Crumbie and Watson.
Come feature time, it’d be Stefan Woyslaw starting pole ahead of Gerrit Tiemersma, Terry Woodley, Warren Paxton, Charlie Smith, Cory Young, Brandon Crumbie, Dave Crumbie, Jake Watson, Eric Yorke, Chris Allard, Nic Montanari, Samantha Shaw, Andy Kamrath, Thomas Dunn and Steeve Melson.
The drop of the green flag saw a battle for the top spot between Paxton and Tiemersma, though the caution flew on lap two. Eric Yorke and Jake Watson made contact on the frontstretch, resulting in Watson making contact with the wall and done for the night.
Warren Paxton got a good restart to put the No. 33 Blue Mountain Honda of Collingwood Honda Civic out front as Smith battled Tiemersma for second. Smith moved into the second spot on Lap 4 ahead of Tiemersma and Young. Smith continued his climb, getting alongside Paxton for the top spot a lap later as Young got alongside Tiemersma for third.
The battle for the lead involved some contact as Paxton hit Smith, but Smith was able to straighten it out and put the No. 85 Georgian Hot Tubs, Chuck Taylor Haulage, London Recreational Racing, Oro Electric, Iron Horse, Simcoe Auto Recyclers, Aircon Services & Reffers Sales Inc. Green Valley Electric, Qucik Pizza, Cintas, Greenweld, M&S Metal Products, Ideal Supply, Skate Zone Neon out front on Lap 7.
Paxton now ran second ahead of Young as Brandon Crumbie and Kamrath battled for fourth. Kamrath got the spot on Lap 9 ahead of Crumbie, Tiemersma, Woodley, Montanari and Dave Crumbie as Allard and Yorke battled for 10th. Behind them, Shaw ran 12th ahead of Woyslaw and Dunn. Dunn got alongside Woyslaw for 13th at Lap 13, completing the pass a lap later.
Meanwhile, Kamrath continued his climb with a pass on Young to move into third at Lap 15. The battle for 10th continued as Allard looked to have the upperhand at Lap 16, but Yorke was able to get back alongside.
It seemed there were battles through the field as Crumbie got alongside Young for fourth with seven laps to go, while Montanari got alongside Woodley for seventh. Crumbie was able to get fourth, with Montanari able to grab seventh on Lap 19. As Crumbie was completing the pass, Young tagged the back of his car, though Crumbie was able to hold on to the spot.
At the front of the field, Charlie Smith cruised to the victory ahead of Warren Paxton, Andy Kamrath, Brandon Crumbie, Cory Young, Nic Montanari, Gerritt Tiemersma, Terry Woodley, Dave Crumbie and Chris Allard.
