If anybody believed Taylor Holdaway would slow down after winning the championship last season, they were mistaken as ‘Hollywood’ picked up his seventh feature victory of the year at Sunset Speedway.
Following 12-car invert from the first feature, it’d be Thayne Hallyburton starting pole ahead of Lane Zardo, Ryan Kimball, Billy Zardo, Chris Morrow, Mike Bentley, Taylor Holdaway, Travis Hallyburton, Nick Goetz, Kevin Cornelius, Gord Shepherd, Brandon Watson, Paul Maltese, Brittney Gresel, Jordan Latimer, Al Inglis, Danny Benedict, Mike Wilkinson, Scott Wylie, Sean Cronan and Justin Holmes.
The green flag saw a battle for the lead between Thayne Hallyburton and Lane Zardo, while Morrow and Billy Zardo battled for third. Morrow got the third spot on Lap 3 ahead of Zardo and Bentley.
At the front, Lane Zardo put the No. 46 HOLMES ON HOMES, SHELBY ROOFING & NATIONAL EXHAUST, BETTER CONTRACTING, SMART SCREEN Late Model into the lead at Lap 4. Behind Zardo, Morrow got alongside Hallyburton for second, as Bentley got alongside Billy Zardo for fourth. Morrow took the spot at Lap 6 ahead of Hallyburton and Bentley.
The battle for Bentley and Billy Zardo went affray on Lap 7, though, as both drivers spun out. Bentley went to go underneath Hallyburton, however there wasn’t quite enough room, resulting in contact. Zardo then spun in the process behind them. With 29 laps to go, Lane Zardo led Morrow, Hallyburton, Holdaway, Goetz, Travis Hallyburton, Shepherd, Kimball, Watson, Maltese, Gresel, Wylie, Inglis, Latimer, Wilkinson and Billy Zardo.
Morrow got a good restart to put the No. 11 MORROW ELECTRIC, CRS CONTRACTOR RENTAL SUPPLY, PLUMBTECH PLUMBING, HALL’S SERVICE CENTRE, SN DIESEL Late Model out front. Lane Zardo ran second ahead of Holdaway as the Hallyburton brothers battled for fourth.
Goetz moved himself up into sixth on Lap 10, as Shepherd and Kimball battled for seventh. Watson then took the pair three-wide on Lap 11, getting by them both to move into seventh. Meanwhile, Travis Hallyburton was able to move into fourth on Lap 12 ahead of Goetz and Thayne Hallyburton. The battles continued, as Shepherd and Kimball now battled for eighth ahead of Gresel, Wylie and Maltese.
Holdaway was set to make his move, getting alongside Lane Zardo for second at Lap 15. The caution then flew, though, as Bentley spun Latimer in turns one and two. Retaliation under caution with an argument followed, with both drivers being thrown out for the night. With 21 laps to go, Morrow led Lane Zardo, Holdaway, Travis Hallyburton, Goetz, Thayne Hallyburton, Watson, Kimball, Shepherd, Gresel, Wylie, Inglis, Billy Zardo, Holmes, Cornelius, Wilkinson, Benedict, Maltese and Cronan.
Morrow got another good restart to keep the lead as Lane Zardo ran second, while Travis Hallyburton and Holdaway battled for third ahead of Goetz, Watson and Thayne Hallyburton. The caution then flew once again, though, as Wylie ran into problems.
This time, the restart fell in the favor of Lane Zardo as he returned to the top spot ahead of Morrow and Travis Hallyburton while Holdaway battled Thayne Hallyburton for fourth. Morrow quickly caught Zardo, getting alongside for the lead at Lap 21.
The pair then battled till the caution flew once again, this time for Inglis spinning in turn four. With 11 laps to go, Morrow was scored the leader ahead of Zardo, Hallyburton, Goetz, Holdaway, Watson, Shepherd, Thayne Hallyburton, Kimball, Billy Zardo, Gresel, Holmes, Wilkinson, Maltese, Inglis, Benedict and Cronan.
Morrow got a good restart to keep the lead ahead of Lane Zardo and Travis Hallyburton. The battle for second didn’t go as planned, as contact happened resulting in Hallyburton spinning Zardo in turns one and two.
The restart saw Goetz drop out of the top-five with a problem, while Morrow and Holdaway ran side-by-side for the lead ahead of Watson. Shepherd moved up to fourth ahead of Billy Zardo and Thayne Hallyburton. Gresel then got alongside Hallyburton for sixth at Lap 28 ahead of Kimball, Gresel and Holmes as Goetz made his way into the pits. Gresel would get the spot with five laps to go.
At the front of the field, Holdaway would clear Morrow for the lead with four laps to go to put the No. 41 Bay Auto and Truck Parts, Holdaway Automotive, Image Factor Motorsports Design and Photography, KartSTART presented by Toyota, Yamaha Motor Canada, Wix Filters, Castrol Canada, Sunshine Super Wash, and Stefko Racing Engines Late Model out front.
Taylor Holdaway then led the rest of the way en route to scoring the win ahead of Chris Morrow, Brandon Watson, Gord Shepherd, Billy Zardo, Britney Gresel, Thayne Hallyburton, Ryan Kimball, Paul Maltese, Justin Holmes, Lane Zardo, Travis Hallyburton, Al Inglis, Mike Wilkinson, Danny Benedict, Sean Cronan, Kevin Cornelius and Nick Goetz.
