BRIGHTON, Ont. (July 27, 2016) – Brighton Speedway’s 49th season of racing returns to action on Saturday, July 30 with the second and final race of the season for the Gord’s Water Vantastics. The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models, Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds and Bill’s Johns Comp 4s are all on the schedule for weekly shows while the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks compete in the final round of the Larry’s Towing Triple Crown.
Spectator gates open at 5:30pm before the action gets underway at 7:00pm. Adult admission is just $10 and a family pass, valid for two adults and up to three children 12 and under, is only $25.
The Gord’s Water Vantastics are a unique form of racing at Brighton. Not only are they minivans instead of stock cars, but each van actually features a team of two: one driver and one navigator. It often produces some of the wackiest and most entertaining racing around.
Entering the final week of July racing, Phil Potts has claimed the championship point lead with two wins and two second-place finishes in the month so far. The margin for error remain slim though, as he holds just a 15-point advantage over Charlie Sandercock. Brandon Mowat sits third, just 70 points back of the lead. Adam Turner and Steve Baldwin complete the current top-five.
Andrew Hennessy’s fifth win of the season padded his lead in the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified standings last week. He sits on a 225-point gap over Dan Ferguson and Kraig Handley, who sit tied for second. Derrick Greig occupies the fourth spot, just 30 points ahead of Josh Hennessy.
The standings remain unchanged in the Brighton Automotive Pro Stock division following last week’s race where the top four drivers in points finished in the top four positions. Justin Ramsay holds a 150-point lead over Wade Purchase. Doug Anderson sits 35 points back of Purchase for second while Brandon Murrell is fourth on the strength of his second win. Jonah Mutton is fifth.
The Bill’s Johns Comp 4s return to regular weekly action after completing the ABC Taxi Triple Crown portion of their schedule last week. Tyler French claimed the Triple Crown this year. He is in commanding control in the overall championship standings with a 345-point lead. Josh Read occupies second, although he will not compete the rest of the season. Matthew Moore is third in the standings ahead of Adam Flieler and Peter Moore.
