The Southeast Super Stocks rolled into Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, SC on Saturday July 30 set for a full night of action.
It appeared throughout the first practice as Sawyer Frady picked up where he left off. Frady he won the last race at Tri-County Motor Speedweay and he went on to set fast time in the first practice at Anderson. He was followed by series veteran Jason Leatherwood. After the first round, the teams and drivers made adjustments for the extremely hot track. The second practice opened up to the drivers and Leatherwood picked up the pace and topped the speed charts. The teams made final adjustments and lined back up for the final round of practice with Frady was the quickest this time out.
Qualifying was soon to follow and it was Leatherwood setting the fast time for the Southeast Super Stocks followed by Tyler Worley in second. Leatherwood rolled a five on the invert dice. now setting up with John Gallman on the top spot with Spencer Childers starting on the outside.
As Gallman paced the field around the track for the pace laps and led them to the green flag, Worley quickly worked his way from the fourth starting position to the lead on the very first lap. Frady followed Worley’s tire tracks and took over the second position. Meanwhile, Leatherwood started working his way to the front, and by Lap 10 moved into second. The first caution came out on Lap 24 as the No. 65 of John Mamph spun in turn two with Worley cutting a tire down.
Leatherwood led the field back to the green flag, with just 26 laps remaining in the feature. The battle for third began to heat up as Gallman, Worley, and Troy Burgess all raced hard. Burgess and Worley weren’t cutting each other no slack with both wanting to advance and get to the front. The pair made contact resulting in Worley spinning in turn four.
As Leatherwood led the field back to the green flag, they weren’t able to complete a lap when the caution came back out for John Mamph spinning on the front stretch. As the field took the green flag again, Mamph brought out the caution again for a spin coming off turn four.
Leatherwood paced the field back to the green, and went onto win the race followed by Frady.
