Taking the lead with just over 10 laps to go, Ryan Kimball picked up his second feature victory of the 2016 season at Sunset Speedway.
Following the first feature on July 9, it’d Britney Gresel starting pole ahead of Kimball, Tom Walters, Chris Morrow, Taylor Holdaway, Nick Goetz, Billy Zardo, Travis Hallyburton, Gord Shepherd, Sean Cronan, Thayne Hallyburton, Al Inglis, Mike Wilkinson, Jordan Latimer, Danny Benedict, Paul Maltese, Lane Zardo, Justin Holmes and Scott Wylie.
Gresel put the No. 81 Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park, Walkerton Toyota, Brittney’s Hair Studio, Brandon’s Landscapes, Spira Fire Protection and Cabral Race Promotions Late Model out front as Kimball and Walters battled for second. The caution then flew, though, as Latimer stopped in turn four as a result of a clutch issue.
Gresel got the lead on the restart ahead of Kimball as Morrow moved into third ahead of Walters. Behind them, it’d be Goetz and Holdaway side-by-side for fifth at Lap 3 ahead of Billy Zardo, as Travis Hallyburton battled Shepherd for eighth. Holdaway took the fifth spot on Lap 5 ahead of Goetz, as Shepherd got alongside Zardo for seventh. Shepherd then completed the pass a lap later, with Inglis getting alongside Zardo.
Further up the field, Holdaway continued his climb, getting alongside Walters for fourth at Lap 8, and the completing the pass. Goetz then followed him through to move into fifth, bumping Walters back to sixth. Shepherd now ran seventh ahead of Inglis, Zardo, Travis Hallyburton, Cronan and Thayne Hallyburton. Lane Zardo then got alongside Thayne for 12th at Lap 13, as Shepherd got alongside Walters fifth a lap later.
The battles continued around the track, with Holdaway getting alongside Morrow for third at Lap 16 ahead of Goetz, Shepherd, Inglis, Walters and Billy Zardo. The caution then flew on Lap 19 as Thayne Hallyburton went around in turn two.
Gresel got the jump on the restart to keep the lead as Morrow and Kimball battled for second, while Goetz and Holdaway battled for fourth ahead of Shepherd, Inglis and Walters. Kimball was able to clear Morrow for second, quickly getting alongside Gresel at Lap 24. Meanwhile, Holdaway cleared Goetz to get alongside Morrow for third a lap later. Goetz now ran fifth ahead of Shepherd and Inglis.
Kimball made quick work of Gresel, putting the No. 3 GTA Racing Design, The Landing Strip, For Your Eyes Only Late Model out front with eight laps to go ahead of Gresel, Holdaway, Morrow, Goetz, and Shepherd. Holdaway’s climb continued as he got by Gresel to move into second with 5 laps to go.
Meanwhile, Goetz got alongside Morrow for fourth with 4 to go ahead of Shepherd, Inglis and Walters as Travis Halyburton and Wylie ran side-by-side for ninth. Hallyburton got the spot, getting alongside Walters for eighth. Walters was able to hold on, with Wylie getting back alongside Hallyburton.
At the front of the field, it was all Ryan Kimball as he picked up the win ahead of Taylor Holdaway, Britney Gresel, Nick Goetz, Chris Morrow, Gord Shepherd, Al Inglis, Tom Walters, Travis Hallyburton, Scott Wylie, Lane Zardo, Billy Zardo, Sean Cronan, Mike Wilkinson, Thayne Hallyburton, Danny Benedict and Paul Maltese.
