ORO STATION, Ont. – July 30, 2016 – Tyler Hawn turned in a pair of top-five finishes during his return appearance at Peterborough Speedway with the OSCAAR Super Late Models on July 30. The scheduled 50-lap distance was altered to feature two 20-lap races. Hawn earned fourth- and fifth-place finishes, bringing his season total to three top-five results.
“We were a little loose out of the corner and we made some adjustments for the second race. I think we had a little too much gear. We were revving too high in the corners and were spinning the tires,” Hawn said, noting how he plans to improve for the series’ Labour Day Weekend return to Peterborough on September 3.
A clean weekend without any mechanical problems allowed the Hawn Motorsports team to assess the performance of the Fox’s Bakery/Atlantis Bath Centres/TSS Top Shops No.42 for the first time since the May season opener at Flamboro.
“It was good clean racing. We didn’t have any problems, no oil leaks, nothing,” Hawn explained. “I’m getting a lot more comfortable in the car. We’ll get there. I’ve always liked Peterborough and it’s always been fun there.”
A pair of strong finishes without any damage to the car will allow Hawn more time to focus on perfecting the setup. Hawn has established a new comfort level with his new engine package and the Oro Station, Ont. driver has allowed himself to begin experimenting with setup options.
“We’re starting to do a few more adjustments outside the box to see what happens. What we did adjust helped us. The car’s really good that way,” Hawn explained. “We have to keep gaining and not be afraid of trying different things. This week there isn’t much to do to the car. We can take a little extra time and go over some setup stuff. ”
A return date to Flamboro on August 6 is next on the schedule and the final qualifying event before the OSCAAR Race for the Cup chase begins. Hawn currently holds a qualifying spot for the chase and feels confident in a return to Flamboro.
“I’m learning that place pretty well because we’ve been there so much. This is our last race there this season (with OSCAAR). It’s a fun track to race,” he added.
