Sunset Speedway fans got to witness one of their fan favourites back in victory lane as Chris Morrow picked up the Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model feature victory on Saturday night.
Following the second feature on the night, Morrow started the third feature on pole ahead of Ryan Kimball, Paul Maltese, Brittney Gresel, Nick Goetz, Billy Zardo, Thayne Hallyburton, Sean Cronan, Scott Wylie, Taylor Holdaway, Travis Hallyburton, Gord Shepherd, Mark Gordon, Tom Walters, Lane Zardo, Mike Wilkinson, Danny Benedict, Justin Holmes, Kyle Passer and Dwight Brown.
Off the drop of the green flag, Chris Morrow put the No. 11 MORROW ELECTRIC, CRS CONTRACTOR RENTAL SUPPLY, PLUMBTECH PLUMBING, HALL’S SERVICE CENTRE, SN DIESEL Late Model out front as Kimball and Maltese battled for second. Behind them, Gresel ran fourth ahead of Goetz and Billy Zardo.
Goetz went to make the move underneath Gresel at Lap 3, though she pinned him down, resulting in Goetz getting in the grass and losing some ground. As a result, Zardo was able to make his way up to fourth ahead of Cronan.
Going into turn one, though, there’d be contact between Zardo and Gresel on Lap 5, resulting in Gresel going for the spin, collecting Shepherd, Thayne Hallyburton and Benedict. Shepherd and Thayne Hallyburton were done for the event, while Gresel and Benedict were able to continue. With 31 laps to go, Morrow led Maltese, Kimball, Cronan, Goetz, Holdaway, Wylie, Travis Hallyburton, Lane Zardo, Walters, Gordon, Wilkinson, Holmes, Inglis, Passer and Billy Zardo.
Morrow got a good restart to keep the lead ahead of Maltese with Cronan moving into third ahead of Holdaway, as Kimball and Hallyburton battled for fifth. The caution then flew, though, as Gordon spun in turns three and four.
Morrow got another good restart once again keeping the lead ahead of Maltese, as Cronan and Holdaway battled for third ahead of Hallyburton and Walters. Though once again, the caution flew as Wilkinson spun in turn two following contact from Passer. With 27 laps to go, Morrow led Maltese, Cronan, Holdaway, Hallyburton, Walters, Morrow, Lane Zardo, Goetz, Wylie and Inglis.
Another restart, another job well done by Morrow as he kept the lead while Maltese and Cronan ran side-by-side for second, as Holdaway and Hallyburton ran side-by-side for fourth. Behind them, Walters and Lane Zardo ran side-by-side for sixth. Maltese would clear Cronan for second just as the caution flew once again, this time for Zardo with a flat tire in turns three and four.
Morrow became king of restarts on the night, getting another good one as Holdaway took Maltese and Cronan three-wide to grab second. Maltese now ran third ahead of Cronan, while Walters and Wylie battled for fifth. Walters then made contact with Cronan at Lap 15, getting Cronan sideways as he fell back through the field. He’d then pull off the track into the pits.
At the halfway mark of the event, it’d be Morrow leading Holdaway, Maltese, Wylie, Goetz, Travis Hallyburton, Walters and Kimball. Inglis ran ninth ahead of Billy Zardo at Lap 20 as Lane Zardo headed into the pits, done for the night. meanwhile, the caution flew for the fifth time as Passer went around in turn two.
The restart saw a battle for the lead between Holdaway and Morrow, with Morrow resuming his position in the top spot at Lap 22 as Wylie got alongside Holdaway for second. Meanwhile, Travis Hallyburton ran fourth as Goetz and Maltese battled for fifth ahead of Walters, Kimball and Billy Zardo. Goetz got the fifth spot on Lap 25, as Holdaway cleared Wylie for second.
Hallyburton then got alongside Wylie for third at Lap 26, completing the pass a lap later. Goetz continued to run fifth ahead of Maltese, Walters, Kimball, Billy Zardo, Inglis, Gordon, Benedict, Wilkinson and Passer. Holmes then got by Passer for 14th with six laps to go, as Hallyburton got alongside Holdaway for second. Hallyburton was unable to complete the pass, falling back in line.
Chris Morrow picked up the win ahead of Taylor Holdaway, Travis Hallyburton, Scott Wylie and Nick Goetz. Paul Maltese finished sixth, followed by Tom Walters, Ryan Kimball, Billy Zardo and Al Inglis.
Mark Gordon finished 11th, followed by Danny Benedict, Mike Wilkinson, Justin Holmes, Kyle Passer, Brittney Gresel, Lane Zardo, Sean Cronan, Thayne Hallyburton, Gord Shepherd and Dwight Brown.
