The NASCAR XFINITY Series is in the finger lakes region of New York this weekend at the newly repaved Watkins Glen International for their first of three road course races this season. All time series wins leader Kyle Busch led the way in opening practice in preparation for Saturday’s Zippo 200 at The Glen.
Busch ran a quick lap of of 72.065 seconds (122.390 MPH), which was .221 seconds faster than last year’s winner at the Glen Joey Logano, who finished second.
Kyle Larson was third followed by Paul Menard and Justin Allgaier.
Trevor Bayne, Brad Keselowski, Brendan Gaughan, Ty Dillon, and Ryan Reed rounded out the top ten on the speed charts.
Notables include: Elliott Sadler 11th, Brennan Poole 12th, Erik Jones 13th, Brandon Jones 14th, Darrell Wallace Jr. 15th, Kenny Habul 16th, Todd Bodine 22nd, and Daniel Suarez 24th.
The XFINITY Series returns to the track one more time today for practice at 3:30 P.M. ET.
