It was announced on August 4 the No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing team of Kurt Busch was issued a P2-level penalty because NASCAR officials found the right rear quarter panel had been modified in the post-race inspection after the rain delayed race at Pocono Raceway on Monday evening.
The Crew Chief for the No. 41 team, Tony Gibson, has been fined $10,000 and will continue his NASCAR probation through December 31.
According to sections 12.1; 20.4, 20.4.16 as well as 20.4.2 in the NASCAR Rule Book, pertains to the body specifications including “All braces used for support of fenders as well as quarter panels must all be straight.”
Busch started the race at the rear of the field for unapproved body modification and ended up finishing 10th and has officially clinched a spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. He has also completed every lap in all 21 races this season thus far.
