IndyCar rolls into Pocono Raceway for the ABC Supply 500 and this is a time for hometown local Marco Andretti, driver of the No 27 Andretti Autosport Honda, to look for redemption for a strong finish on his season.
This is Andretti ‘s home track as he lives in nearby Nazareth, the town his grandfather and 1969 Indianapolis 500 winner Mario Andretti settled into when he came to America from Italy with racing dreams of his own.
“I always enjoy going to Pocono since it’s a home race for me,” he said. “We have a lot of friends and family come to enjoy the weekend and I really hope we can give then all a great finish.”
When IndyCar returned to the Tricky Triangle in 2013, Andretti dominated the weekend as he showed speed in both practices and won the pole position in qualifying, breaking the previous speed track record. Unfortunately after an early start to leading the race, fuel issues and strategy would end his day with a 10th place finish.
“The UFD/Snapple crew has some unfinished business to get back to from 2013, and this year is the time to do it,” he said. “It should be a great race for the fans to watch and I expect there to be some crazy restarts.”
