The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series finally took the track on Saturday Morning at Darlington Raceway, a day after Hurricane Hermine’s torrential rains rained out all of Friday’s track activities in preparation for tomorrow night’s Bojangles’ Southern 500.
Three – time Darlington winner Jimmie Johnson led the way in opening practice with a speed of 27.937 seconds (176.025 MPH). Johnson’s lap was .154 seconds ahead of Denny Hamlin.
Ryan Blaney was third followed by: Kyle Larson and Ryan Newman rounded out the top five.
Brad Keselowski, Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr., Paul Menard, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. rounded out the top ten.
Notables include: Kevin Harvick 11th, Kasey Kahne 13th, Jeff Gordon 14th, Joey Logano 15th, Kyle Busch 16th, Matt Kenseth 18th, Kurt Busch 19th, Tony Stewart 20th, Carl Edwards 22nd, and Austin Dillon 23rd.
