It seems rookie Daniel Montanari has found his groove as he scored the victory in the Signs of Innovation Mighty Mini feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
The night didn’t start out smoothly with Wendy Adams slowing on Lap 6 with a problem in the first heat. Montanari picked up the win ahead of Dylan Holmes, Billy McLeod, Robert Toope, Joe Dunlop, Lisa DeLeeuw, Chandler Bos, Scott Brooks, Doug Smith and Josh Inglis.
The second heat wouldn’t go smoothly either as Morgan Robson Jr. spun Peter Wakeling on Lap 5. Nic St. Onge picked up the win ahead of Kyle Fetterly, Daniel Montanari, Melissa Bullen, Doug Wilman, Eric Rainey, Harold Noseworthy, James Levi, Wakeling and Robson Jr.
Nic St. Onge went for the daily double, winning the Dash for Cash ahead of Montanari, Holmes, McLeod, Bullen, Fetterly, Rainey, Paradzinski, Wilman, Toope, Dunlop and DeLeeuw.
Come feature time, it’d be Daniel Montanari and Kyle Fetterly leading the field to green, with Montanari jumping out to the early advantage behind the wheel of the No. 9 UNITED ROOFING, BOOST BUTTON AND PERMATEX Mighty Mini. The caution quickly flew in the event, though, as Morgan Robson Jr. went for a spin down the backstretch.
Montanari got a good restart to clear Fetterly for the lead, while points leader Johnny Paradzinski cracked the top-five after starting deep in the field. Melissa Bullen was also able to work her way back into the top-five, despite falling back early, before the second caution flew for Robson spinning once again, this time making contact with the frontstretch wall.
With eight laps to go, Montanari cleared Fetterly once again to keep the lead while Paradzinski moved up into third. Nic St. Onge looked to be gaining on Bullen for fifth when the caution flew once again, this time for Wilman spinning Toope in turns three and four.
With 5 to go, Montanari got another good restart ahead of Fetterly while St. Onge found himself all over the back bumper of Paradzinski for third. After the lead took the white flag, there’d be contact between Dylan Holmes and Joe Dunlop in turn two, resulting in Dunlop going around. As a result, the checkered flag was flown and the race was declared over.
Daniel Montanari got the victory ahead of Kyle Fetterly, Johnny Paradzinski, Nic St. Onge and Melissa Bullen. Chandler Bos finished sixth, followed by Lisa DeLeeuw, Eric Rainey, Peter Wakeling and Harold Noseworthy.
Doug Wilman finished 11th, followed by James Levi, Robert Toope, Billy McLeod, Wendy Adams, Doug Smith, Josh Inglis, Joe Dunlop, Dylan Holmes and Morgan Robson Jr.
