Taking the lead on Lap 19, Travis Hallyburton didn’t look back en route to scoring his second feature victory of the season at Sunset Speedway.
Following the first 12-car invert after the first feature, Mike Wilkinson started pole ahead of Chance Isherwood, Danny Benedict, Lane Zardo, Jordan Latimer, Paul Maltese, Nick Goetz, Sean Cronan, Mike Bentley, Gord Shepherd, Travis Hallyburton, Dwayne Baker, Billy Zardo, Thayne Hallyburton, Taylor Holdaway, Ryan Kimball, Al Inglis, Brittney Gresel, Shaun McWhirter and Kevin Cornelius.
Wilkinson grabbed the early lead behind the wheel of the No. 25 WILKINSON MOBILE SERVICE, LEWIS MOTORS, TRADEMARK SIGNS, RETRO PLANET AND CREATIVE OUTDOOR PRIVACY SOLUTIONS Late Model ahead of Benedict and Latimer. However, the lead didn’t last long as the caution flew on Lap 2 for contact in turns one and two between Cronan and Maltese, resulting in McWhirter, Kimball and Cornelius each going for spins.
The restart saw Benedict put the No. 54 DENT DYNAMICS, MAYHEW GRAPHICS, HOY’S GARAGE, BAUDO AUTO SERVICES LTD., IRWIN TAX ASSOCIATION, WALLACE AUTO SUPPLY, MARK RAINFORD AUTO CENTRE LTD., B&W ENTERPRISES, CAMSPORT TRUCK CAPS AND ACCESSORIES, CLARKE MOTORSPORTS COMMUNICATIONS, PERMATEX AND MAYHEW AUTO Late Model out front as Wilkinson and Lane Zardo battled for second.
Lane Zardo got the second spot on Lap 3, bringing Goetz through with him for third. Travis Hallyburton was set to pass Wilkinson for fourth but the caution flew on Lap 5 for Billy Zardo going around in turn four.
Benedict got a good restart to keep the lead ahead of Lane Zardo and Goetz as Hallyburton moved into fourth ahead of Wilkinson and Bentley. Goetz got alongside Zardo for second at Lap 7, but the caution flew for Bentley spinning Wilkinson.
The first attempt at a restart didn’t go cleanly with Gresel spinning Inglis. The second attempt went cleanly, with Benedict and Zardo battling for the lead, while Goetz and Hallyburton battled for third. Benedict got the lead, with the battle for second going three-wide between Goetz, Hallyburton and Zardo. Goetz came out on top in second on Lap 11 ahead of Zardo and Hallyburton.
The fifth caution then flew on Lap 13 for Thayne Hallyburton going around in turn two. With 12 laps to go, Benedict led Goetz, Zardo, Travis Hallyburton, Baker, Shepherd, Latimer, Holdaway, Maltese, Kimball, Cronan, Bentley, Wilkinson, McWhirter, Gresel, Inglis and Thayne Hallyburton.
Goetz got a good restart to put the No. 24 Lake Huron Rod & Gun, Mondo Car Wash, Boston Pizza, Super 8 Motel, Lord Elgin Fish & Chips, Rosener’s Service Centre, Roberto’s Pizzeria, Great Lakes Concrete, Austin Graphics, Pierson Motors of Kincardine and ImageWraps.ca Late Model out front ahead of Benedict and Traivs Hallyburton.
Travis Hallyburton was set to continue his charge, getting alongside Benedict for second on Lap 14 as Shepherd ran fourth ahead of Baker and Lane Zardo’s battle for fifth. Hallyburton took the second spot on Lap 15, with Shepherd getting alongside Benedict for third. The fifth caution then flew, though, as McWhirter spun on the backstretch. With 18 laps to go, Goetz led Hallyburton, Benedict, Shepherd, Baker, Zardo, Holdaway, Maltese, Bentley, Latimer, Cronan, Kimball and Thayne Hallyburton.
The restart saw a battle for the lead between Travis Hallyburton and Goetz, with Hallyburton putting the No. 39 HILLSDALE SERVICE CENTER, KNIGHTWORKS Design Late Model out front on Lap 19. Goetz ran second ahead of Shepherd, Baker and Benedict as Zardo and Bentley ran side-by-side for sixth. Bentley got the spot, getting alongside Benedict for fifth a lap later.
Behind them, Zardo now ran seventh ahead of Maltese while Cronan and Holdaway ran side-by-side ninth. Cronan got the spot on Lap 23, with Kimball getting alongside Holdaway for 10th. Bentley was able to clear Benedict for fifth at Lap 24, with Maltese getting alongside Zardo for seventh. Cronan continued to run ninth ahead of Kimball, Holdaway and Thayne Hallyburton as Latimer battled Gresel for 13th. Kimball then got alongside Cronan for ninth at Lap 27, completing the pass a lap later.
Meanwhile, Zardo was able to clear Maltese for seventh at Lap 29, getting alongside Benedict for sixth. Kimball then got by Maltese for eighth at Lap 30, with Cronan rounding out the top-10 ahead of Holdaway, Thayne Hallyburton and Gresel. At the front of the field, Shepherd got by Goetz with three to go for second while Kimball got by Zardo for seventh. Kimball then got alongside Benedict for sixth with two laps to go.
Travis Hallyburton picked up the win ahead of Gord Shepherd, Nick Goetz, Dwayne Baker and Mike Bentley. Danny Benedict finished sixth, followed by Ryan Kimball, Lane Zardo, Paul Maltese and Sean Cronan.
Taylor Holdaway finished 11th, followed by Thayne Hallyburton, Brittney Gresel, Jordan Latimer, Al Inglis, Mike Wilkinson, Billy Zardo, Shaun McWhirter, Kevin Cornelius and Chance Isherwood.
