At just 12-years-old, Treyten Lapcevich is making headlines as the youngster scored his second career Super Stock feature victory on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Following time trials earlier in the night, Anthony DiBello started pole, followed by Dennis Cybalski, Mike Troback, Ryan Semple, Mike Weeda, Stan Coe, Dustyn Mombourquette, Justin Holmes, Matt Bentley, Miles Tyson, Jordan Howse, Treyten Lapcevich, Jade Franklin, Coltin Everingham, Kendra Adams, Herb Walters, Stefan Semeraro and William Hughes.
The green flag saw a battle for the lead between DiBello and Cybalski, with DiBello putting the No. 16 DIBELLO TOWING, RACE TOYOTA, B&G TRUCK REPAIR, POWERTRAIN AUTOMOTIVE, ALGONQUIN PROPERTY SERVICE, FEDERAL WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS, LARRY’S AIR CARE, GIORGIO’S FINE DINING AND SEAGRAVE SPEED SHOP Super Stock out front on Lap 2 ahead of Cybalski, Troback and Semple.
Battles still ragged on throughout the field with Weeda and Coe side-by-side for fifth. The first caution was quick to fly, though, coming out on Lap 3 as a result of Mombourquette spinning in turn two virtue of contact from Franklin.
The restart saw Cybalski put the No. 10c RDJ AUTO SALES, BARTON NAPA AUTO PARTS, P&R HAULAGE Camaro out front ahead of DiBello as Semple ran side-by-side with Troback for third ahead of Coe. There were battles throughout the field, with Tyson and Weeda side-by-side for sixth on Lap 5. Tyson got the spot a lap later, bringing Lapcevich and Howse through with him.
Meanwhile, Semple took over third on Lap 9 just before the caution flew for Weeda spinning in turn two. With 21 laps to go, Cybalski led DiBello, Semple, Troback, Tyson, Coe, Lapcevich, Howse, Bentley, Walters, Everingham, Brandon Passer, Adams, Semeraro, Rob Morrison, Franklin, Mombourquette, Keith Temple, Ethan Constable, Frank Davey, Weeda, Justin Holmes and Nick Tooley.
The first attempt at a restart saw the third caution due to Constable spinning in turn two. The second attempt went cleanly with Cybalski pulling ahead as DiBello and Troback battled for second. DiBello got the spot on Lap 12, with Semple getting alongside Troback for third. Semple got the spot, bringing Tyson through with him as Troback went around for the spin in turn two.
The restart once again saw DiBello and Cybalski run side-by-side for the lead, with DiBello this time grabbing the advantage as Semple got alongside Cybalski for second. Semple got the spot on Lap 16, getting alongside DiBello for the lead.
Meanwhile, Howse got into turn three grass but was able to continue. However, the damage was done for Howse as he’d slow with a flat tire for the fifth caution. With 15 laps to go, DiBello led Semple, Cybalski, Tyson, Lapcevich, Coe, Bentley, Walters, Everingham, Passer, Semeraro, Adams, Franklin, Morrison, Constable, Holmes, Mombourquette and Davey.
The restart saw DiBello grab the advantage ahead of Semple as Tyson and Lapcevich ran side-by-side for third. Semple then got alongside DiBello for the lead, putting the No. 64 AUTO TRIM DESIGN OF BARRIE, STREAMLINE RACE PRODUCTS, ANDERSON SHEET METAL, ROSEMONT LIMOUSINE, HYBRID LANDSCAPE AND HWY 400 TRANSMISSION Camaro out front on Lap 19.
Behind Semple, Lapcevich was able to get alongside DiBello for second, taking the spot on Lap 20. Tyson followed him through, moving into third ahead of DiBello a lap later. Behind them, Bentley got alongside Cybalski for sixth ahead of Coe as Walters and Everingham ran side-by-side for ninth. Bentley took the sixth spot on Lap 23 ahead of Cybalski and Coe.
The sixth caution then flew on Lap 25 as a result of Adams being spun in turn four by Franklin. With five laps to go, Semple led ahead of Lapcevich, Tyson, DiBello, Bentley, Walters, Everingham, Passer, Morrison, Holmes, Howse and Semeraro.
The restart saw Semple and Lapcevich run side-by-side for the lead ahead of Tyson. Tyson then made it three-wide with four laps to go, resulting in contact going into turn four between himself and Semple. The resulting contact saw Semple go for the spin, while Lapcevich kept it going straight. As a result, both Semple and Tyson were sent to the rear of the field for the restart.
