William Byron started the inaugural Truck Series Chase off in the most dominant of fashions on Saturday Afternoon at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Byron started from the pole and never looked back, leading 161 laps and holding off his Kyle Busch Motorsports teammate Christopher Bell to win the UNOH 175.
For Byron, this marks his sixth victory in an impressive rookie campaign. With the win Byron advances to the next round of the chase, which starts at Martinsville.
“I was afraid (Bell) might catch us there at the end,” said Byron. “We started to get tight but that’s what happens sometimes when you get out front. It was just a great race for us. It’s really cool to get a win here to open the Chase.
“With these races there are usually cautions at the end and to not get a caution there, I was surprised. I was kind of expecting to get a caution and was hopefully saving something but we have it all we had the whole race.”
Matt Crafton finished third followed by: Tyler Reddick and Timothy Peters rounded out the top five.
Cole Custer, Kaz Grala, John Hunter Nemechek, Brett Moffitt and Johnny Sauter completed the first ten finishers.
The Truck Series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway next Saturday night for the DC Solar 350.
