After a season full of action, it’s time for the OSCAAR Midgets to head back to Flamboro Speedway. It should be an action packed weekend as they’ll be joined there by the OSCAAR Modifieds and Pro Midgets. While originally scheduled as a two-day event, it’s worth noting it has been shortened to a one-day show on Saturday due to rain in the forecast.
After a thrilling season of action, the final three are set for the OSCAAR Midget Race for the Cup this weekend at Flamboro Speedway. Whoever finishes highest of these three will be crowned the 2016 OSCAAR Midget Champion.
The three eligible drivers are Brian MacDonald, Wayne McKibbon, and Ryan Brown.
With a top-10 in each of the races this year, including seven top-fives, Brian MacDonald entered the OSCAAR Race for the Cup as the top seed. While he hasn’t reached victory lane this year, he has been close over the course of the season with five podium finishes. He’s also posted a top-four finish in each of the four races at Flamboro so far this year.
Following a solid season last year, Wayne McKibbon has been solid once again with a top-10 in each of the races this season. He has been at the front each week, posting six top-five finishes, highlighted by a third place finish at Flamboro Speedway on July 9. He’ll look to carry the success forward to Flamboro where he has finished in the top-five in three of the four races this year.
After starting the year with a pair of finishes outside of the top nine, Ryan Brown has been solid since with a top-five finish in each of the last seven races. The highlight for Brown this year has to be picking up his first career feature victory at Flamboro Speedway mid-season. In his last three starts at Flamboro, he has posted a top-four finish.
Beyond the three drivers in championship contention, there is a field of others looking for glory this weekend.
Despite balancing driving two cars all season, Wally Wilson has been quick behind the wheel of his midget. He has a top-10 finish in each race this season, including three top-fives highlighted by a pair of thirds. He’s done well this year at Flamboro with no finishes outside of the top-six.
Following just one top-10 in the first three races, Zach Millman has been solid ever since with four top-seven finishes in the last five races. In his last start at Flamboro, he posted a sixth place finish.
James Stanley will also be tough to beat as he comes off his fourth straight top-five finish. He’s been strong at Flamboro, posting a victory in July.
Shawn Stanley enters this weekend with momentum after five top-10 finishes. He was solid last year at Flamboro, finishing seventh and finished seventh in July at Flammy.
Owen Elliott has made two starts this year, impressing in both with a win at the Chase for the Colours and a third at the Autumn Colours Classic.
Bill Heatherton didn’t have the 2016 debut he had hoped for at Peterborough with a 12th place finish. Since then, he’s been a little stronger, posting a pair of eighth place finish and a 10th in the most recent race.
Darryl Anthony made his first start of the year at Peterborough, running into issues. However, he was able to things around with a sixth place finish at Flamboro in July. He’ll look to run in the top-10 once again after finishing 13th at Peterborough.
Monty Farrell made his 2016 debut at Flamboro Speedway earlier this year, posting a solid ninth place finish. He’ll look to continue to get stronger this weekend.
Both Jessica James and Nigel Buttivant made their first starts of the year at Peterborough, with James picking up a dominant win and Buttivant sixth. If they’re in the field this weekend, they should be fast.
Along with the OSCAAR Midgets at Flamboro Speedway this weekend will be the OSCAAR Modifieds and OSCAAR Pro Midgets.
