This weekend, the OSCAAR Modifieds will make their return to Flamboro Speedway. While originally scheduled as a two-day event, it’s worth noting it has been shortened to a one-day show on Saturday due to rain in the forecast.
After a thrilling season of action, the final three are set for the OSCAAR Modified Race for the Cup this weekend at Flamboro Speedway. Whoever finishes highest of these three will be crowned the 2016 OSCAAR Modified Champion.
The three drivers qualified are A.J. Emms, Gary McLean, and John Harper.
The sophomore season for Emms is going pretty well as despite a mid-season wreck at Delaware, he’s posted six top-five finishes this season, including a win this past weekend in the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway. He’s had success at Flamboro this year, posting a runner-up in May.
When it comes to OSCAAR Modified competition, the man to watch is always Gary McLean. The four-time series champion has finished in the top-three in each race he’s run this year, except for two. On that note, his victory at Delaware Speedway marked his fourth of the season. Notably, McLean has won a pair of races at Flamboro this year.
John Harper’s season been a tale of two stories – but he’s on the right side right now. After starting the year with five finishes outside of the top-10, he’s posted top-five finishes in each of the last five races. It’s worth noting he’s one of the drivers with a win under his belt this year, too, as he picked up the win earlier this year at Flamboro Speedway.
Beyond the three drivers in championship contention, there is a field of others looking for glory this weekend.
In his rookie season, Luke Gignac has a great chance to pick up his first career feature victory this weekend as he has finished in the top-eight in nine of the 10 races thus season, including five top-fives. Notably he was only a lap and a half away from his first career victory when a mechanical issue caused him to not finish. He’s done well at Flamboro, including a pair of podiums in July.
Gary Elliott has been solid this year, posting seven top-10s in the 10 races. The biggest event of the season had to be at Flamboro Speedway when he scored his first career modified feature victory.
Dan Price has faced his fair share of issues thus far in 2016, but has been solid with five top-10s this season. Notably, he had his best finish this year of fifth just a couple weeks ago while at Flamboro Speedway.
Cory Horner is the man known for consistency as he’s always in the top-10 each week, having posted seven top-10s this season. Despite having not reached victory lane yet in his career, he knows what it takes with two podium finishes this year. He has been strong at Flamboro this season, posting a pair of top-fives.
Brian McLean will be one of the past Flamboro Speedway winners in the field after winning the inaugural OSCAAR event in 2013 after taking the lead in the late stages. McLean had a great performance at Flamboro in June, finishing in the runner-up spot.
David Balych hopes to continuing working towards his first career win after finishing third in the spring. He could use a good run following a ninth place finish at Delaware and wreck at the Autumn Colours Classic.
Ryan Dick could use a solid run this weekend following a wreck at the Autumn Colours Classic.
It’s worth noting a couple surprises were in the field at ACC, including top-five finishers Robert Warnes, Brent McLean and John Baker Jr. If any of them make the trip to Flamboro, it’s worth keeping an eye on them as they proved they have the speed to run up front.
Chris Milwain and Shane Stickel each made their 2016 debuts at Flamboro in June, both posting top-10 finishes with Milwain third. Since then, Milwain ran four more races, scoring a top-eight finish in each event. Both drivers were constant top-five runners in the past so if they continue to follow the tour, look for them to post up another pair of solid runs.
Monty Kelly hopes to keep his string of top-10s going following a sixth place finish at Delaware and a 10th at Flamboro in July.
Dale Reinhart has been plugging away, posting a top-10 finish in each of his starts this year except for one.
Along with the OSCAAR Modifieds at Flamboro Speedway this weekend will be the OSCAAR Pro Midgets and OSCAAR Midgets.
