Owen Elliott may not have run each weekend, but when he ran he made it count. He followed up a runner-up at the Autumn Colours Classic with the victory this past weekend at Flamboro Speedway. Meanwhile, Ryan Brown capped off his solid season with a third place finish to take home the 2016 OSCAAR Midget Championship.
The day didn’t start off pretty as Bill Heatherton spun on Lap 3 in turn three of the first heat for the first caution. Owen Elliott picked up the win ahead of Monty Farrell, James Stanley, Wayne McKibbon, Paul Dermo and Bill Heatherton.
The second heat saw an early spin, as well, as Shawn Stanley spun in turn two on Lap 2. Then two laps later, Parker Bowman spun in turn two for the first caution. The spins continued, as Wally Wilson went around on Lap 7, followed by the second caution at Lap 8 for Zack Millman spinning off of turn two, collecting Stanley in the process. Brent Kemps picked up the win ahead of Ryan Brown, Brian MacDonald, Wilson and Bowman.
The feature didn’t start off smoothly as contact in turn one resulted in Millman catching air, making significant contact with the wall. Thankfully, Millman was able to climb from his car without injury.
The restart saw Brent Kemps grab the early advantage ahead of Elliott, Brown, Stanley and Farrell. Brian MacDonald slotted into the sixth spot on Lap 2 ahead of McKibbon and Bowman, as Wilson and Shawn Stanley battled for ninth. The pair ran side-by-side till the first caution flew at Lap 8 for McKibbon spinning.
Brent Kemps got a good restart to keep the lead ahead of Elliott, Brown, Stanley and Farrell. MacDonald continued to run sixth ahead of Bowman, Heatherton, Wilson and Dermo. Unfortunately shortly after the race, Farrell’s strong run came to an end as he began to slow. The second caution flew not long after, flying on Lap 10 as a result of Bowman spinning off of turn two.
Kemps got a good restart to keep leading, while Dermo’s run came to an end as he broke in the final stages of the event. Kemps looked to be headed towards a victory when Owen Elliott was able to run him down, passing him with two laps to go for the lead.
Owen Elliott then led the rest of the way to capture the victory ahead of Brent Kemps. Ryan Brown rounded out the podium with a third place finish to snag the OSCAAR Midget Championship, while James Stanley and Brian MacDonald rounded out the top-five. Bill Heatherton finished sixth, followed by Wally Wilson, Paul Dermo, Parker Bowman, Monty Farrell and Wayne McKibbon.
