Neel Jani believes the Cadillac DPi teams will be the cars to beat in Saturday’s Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, but it was him who put his No. 13 Rebellion Racing Gibson-powered ORECA P2 on pole for the race.
Jani posted a quick time of 1:48.178 seconds in Friday’s qualifying session to win the pole for the second straight IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race. Jani beat the fastest Cadillac, the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R. Driver Christian Fittipaldi’s by a small margin as Fittipaldi put up a lap of 1:48.273 seconds. He was followed by teammate Eric Curran in the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi, with a lap of 1:48.314.
Starting fourth overall will be the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Ligier, which was qualified by Jose Gutierrez. Rounding out the top-five in qualifying was the No. 22 of Brendon Hartley in the Tequila Patron ESM Nissan DPi.
In the Prototype Challenge class, it was all Gustavo Yacaman in the No. 26 BAR1 Motorsports ORECA FLM09 capturing the pole.
Ryan Briscoe in the No. 67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing GT scored the GT Le Mans pole, while Frenchman Tristan Vautier took the top spot in the No. 75 SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the GT Daytona class.
