Fans have been blessed this season when it comes to the weather, but this weekend that could change.
This weekend’s Food City 500 from the Bristol Motor Speedway is starting to shape up as it has two out of the last three seasons. In recent seasons it seems weather is a touchy subject when it comes to Bristol, and this weekend isn’t looking any different according to a few weather forecasts.
According to The Weather Channel, there is a 90 per cent chance of rain on Friday with thunderstorms early, and more developing in the afternoon. If qualifying were to rain out on Friday, Kyle Larson would start from the pole since he leads the owners points.
Saturday’s schedule features a NASCAR XFINITY Series race and a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race. Rain will again be an issue throughout the day as the forecast shows a 90 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms during the afternoon. Weather will likely be an issue throughout the entire night with a 60 per cent chance of rain in the evening.
The Food City 500 is scheduled to go green at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, which has the least chance of rain at 70 per cent. Only problem is that it’s staying consistent at 70 per cent all day and night. During the day there will be periods of rain with thunder possible. At night, it will be cloudy with some light rain likely.
Should the Food City 500 be postponed to Monday it may please the people working as there is a 60 per cent chance of rain during the day, but only a 20 percent chance of rain during the evening. This could allow for the race to be run in primetime on Monday night..
NASCAR has a new policy that they can push a start time for a race ahead an hour, giving them a better shot at reaching the end of the second stage, which would declare the race official.
