Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and representatives from Suave and Dollar General arrived at Blountville, Tennessee elementary school on Friday morning for a bit of an unorthodox pit stop in the days leading up to the NASCAR Cup Series race in Bristol and surprised everyone at the school in doing so!
After reading books to students and explaining the importance of literacy, Dollar General and Earnhardt, Jr. presented the school principal with a surprise $50,000 check as part of Dollar General’s Reading Revolution program!
“Dollar General is very passionate about its mission of Serving Others, and we are all excited to surprise Blountville Elementary School with a visit from longstanding literacy supporter Dale Earnhardt Jr. and a financial donation to further their reading and literacy programs,” said Denine Torr, Dollar General’s senior director of community initiatives. “We hope this donation will help equip the school with the tools and resources it needs to improve the learning experience for students.”
“It is an honor to be part of the celebration today with the students and staff at Blountville Elementary School thanks to Suave and their partnership with Dollar General,” said Earnhardt Jr., NASCAR’s 14-time Most Popular Driver and owner of JR Motorsports. “It is very important to me to be a part of this program and help provide these students with all of the tools necessary to improve their education and to help them become more confident.”
The program aims to provide schools with additional resources to purchase books, computers and other educational supplies to enhance their reading and literacy programs. Since its inception in 2013, the program has provided more than $2.3 million to more than 50 schools.
