NASCAR XFINITY Series regular Ryan Sieg is set to return to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at Michigan International Speedway this weekend after recently making his Cup debut.
Sieg will once again drive for BK Racing after running for the team at Dover International Speedway two weeks ago. Sieg drove the No. 83 at Dover to a 26th-place finish in place of Corey LaJoie. This time, however, Sieg is the No. 23, the seat usually occupied by 19-year-old Gray Gaulding.
It’s unknown if Gaulding is permanently out of a ride at BK Racing, but the Virginia driver sent out a tweet on Tuesday explaining the situation.
I wanted to be the one to share the news with my fans and partners but I will not be racing the 23 this weekend at @MISpeedway pic.twitter.com/sTytMTQF3c

Sieg responded the tweet with what appeared to be reluctance by saying the team only wanted him to bring his driving shoes and called Gaulding a “great kid and driver.”
The news of Gaulding’s absence from the team’s lineup came after a Monday announcement that crew chief Patrick Donahue would be relieved of his duties on the No. 23 team. Randy Cox, the usual No. 83 crew chief, will work with Sieg this week, while veteran crew chief Doug George will work with LaJoie.
