Dumoulin with Momentum Heading into West Coast Swing

A strong run and second-place finish at Exhibition Place on the Streets of Toronto has given L.P. Dumoulin a much needed boost of momentum headed into the doubleheader at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon and the race at Edmonton International Raceway.

This year’s schedule features two races in two nights in Saskatoon followed closely by the race in Edmonton just three days later. With so many races in so few days, momentum could be key for drivers in the championship hunt.

Dumoulin hasn’t won in the series since Trois-Rivieres in 2014, his championship season. He’s come close several times, including last year at both Saskatoon and Edmonton where he finished second in both races. Ending a long dry spell is number one on Dumoulin’s checklist of things to do.

“My crew chief Bill Burns and my whole team have been working really hard so we can get a win. We’re getting closer and closer every weekend,” Dumoulin told OnPitRoad.com after finishing second on Saturday. “Unfortunately, we had an alternator problem at ICAR, but we’re getting there. We really want to win as soon as possible. Yes, we look for the championship, and we’ll be smart. We work hard. We want to win for us, our family and friends and everyone at WeatherTech.”

While Dumoulin is focused on winning his own race, his older brother, J.F., is back running full-time this year as well. The brothers have both been models of consistency this season, and it has them both in the points race. L.P. sits third in points, while J.F. is seventh.

“That’s the goal. We want both cars in the top-five,” he said. “A podium and a championship would be even better. J.F. (Dumoulin) is a great driver. He’s been same as me. Something with the setup that we still need to figure out. I think we’ve been getting better with it every weekend. We’ve been racing for teams our whole life where they were prepping the material and we were just showing up.”

One thing’s for sure about L.P. Dumoulin after this weekend—his desire to win is still there.

“Never give up,” he said.
