If you want to talk about a team that seems to have their program together, Furniture Row Racing has to be one of the top discussions if not the only team who is seemingly concrete every weekend. A team stands together, falls together, and for Martin Truex Jr. and Furniture Row Racing, they also win together. Truex has really helped turn the organization into one of the staples in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
Without a doubt, if you looked at Furniture Row Racing back in the mid-2000’s, you would’ve never guessed they would be competing for championships just a few years later. Give or take the fact that Kurt Busch’s run for the team in 2012 and 2013 really put the team on track, but when you look at the organization today with Martin Truex Jr., they are far ahead of where they were with Kurt. When the team switched from Chevrolet to Toyota following the 2015 season, many thought the team was making a mistake after competing for the championship in 2015 with the bow tie.
The transition from Chevrolet to Toyota went a lot smoother than anticipated as the team finished second in the 2016 Daytona 500 which would ultimately be closest finish in the history of the Daytona 500. Last season, Truex had the car to beat all year long tallying four victories, eight top-fives, 17 top-tens, and five poles, but an engine expiration at Talladega ended the teams run for the championship. The season wasn’t a failure, however, and showed the chemistry remained in the organization with the driver who joined in 2014 after losing his ride at Michael Waltrip Racing.
The chemistry seems to follow Truex wherever he goes. Look at his success at Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Michael Waltrip Racing. It has seemingly been a stair case for Truex Jr. who is now with a team now with which he can go out and win the championship. The chemistry is strong as he has the most victories in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series this season with four, and has a heavy padding of playoff points that could propel him into the Championship Four at the end of the season.
