Trois-Rivieres own L.P. Dumoulin had a strong showing this weekend at his home track, but it still wasn’t exactly what the 2014 NASCAR Pinty’s Series champion was looking for.
He qualified the No. 47 WeatherTech Canada/Groupe Bellemare Dodge fifth during qualifying, less than a second off of pole winner Andrew Ranger. Dumoulin kept his car in the lead pack in Sunday’s Can-Am Le 50 Tours and brought the car home in fourth, just a step off the podium. The fourth-place finish would be his sixth top-five of the season, tying the amount of top-fives the entire season last year in just nine races this season.
“The car changed a lot since Toronto. We still had under-steer on corner entry today, changing to snap over-steer on exit. I adapted my driving style and was able to stay with the lead pack.” Dumoulin said in the team release. “We also learned something about that problem today, and will be okay for the remaining races this season. I also got into some great fights on track, such as going through the narrow Duplessis Ach side by side with Alex Labbé no less than three times on restarts. All good clean fun for the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare car.”
With four races remaining in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series schedule, Dumoulin currently sits fourth in points, 37 points off of points leader Alex Labbe.
The series heads to Riverside International Speedway in Nova Scotia for the Bumper to Bumper 300 on Saturday. Dumoulin finished second in this race last year, his best finish in six starts at the track.
