Ryan Hunter-Reay, driver of the No. 28 DHL Honda for Andretti Autosport, finished the Grand Prix at the Glen at Watkins Glen International Raceway in the third position on Sunday. The run allowed him to finish on the podium for the third time of 2017. He ended up on the podium with teammate Alexander Rossi as well as Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, giving Honda the top-three finishes of the race.
The podium for Hunter-Reay and Honda sweep came days after Andretti Autosport resigned with the engine supplier for the 2018 season.
RHR, who had tested at the track a few weeks prior to the race, wasn’t happy with his car at the start of the weekend. However, rain in the area before the race started changed things up a bit for the American. He was able to slowly march to the front of the field. When the last caution came out his pit stop got him good track position and he was able to drive his way into the third position.
Going into the last race of the 2017 season having an all Honda podium is pretty promising for the engine supplier. Hunter-Reay is hoping to finish the season strong and to carry the momentum into the 2018 season.
“The guys did a really good job on pit lane today – amazing job,” Hunter-Reay said. “It got us a lot of track position. It was strange where the yellows fell. We had to come through the field a couple of times. All in all, we had a pretty good car, we were just lacking a little bit of front grip to keep up to these two. We have to be happy with a podium, but congrats to the No. 98 team and Alexander (Rossi) on his win, he was certainly in top form this weekend.”
