Sparta, KY (September 20, 2017) – Spencer Davis returns to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards set to make his sixth season start in Friday night’s General Tire Super Weekend; Crosley Brands 150 at Kentucky Speedway.
Davis, a member of last year’s NASCAR Next class, will reunite with last week’s winning crew chief, Dave Leiner, taking over the wheel of Venturini Motorsports’ No.25 Street Toys Automotive and Truck Accessories Toyota Camry.
Finishing a career best third in the ARCA Series at Talladega Superspeedway, Davis believes he can improve in his first visit to the Bluegrass state.
“I’m more than ready to get back behind the wheel of a race car this weekend at Kentucky Speedway,” says Davis. “Dave (Leiner) and the guys have prepared a great car – excited to have Street Toys Automotive and Accessories on board – we have one bad ride ready to roll. I feel really good about this weekend and believe we’ve got just as good as a shot as anyone.”
Holding a heavy heart Davis will pay tribute to auto racing legend Teddy Christopher who tragically lost his life in a plane crash last weekend in Connecticut. Christopher, one of the leading and most diverse short track drivers in the country over the last two decades, was one of Davis’ true childhood hero’s.
“The news of Teddy’s tragic death hit me hard” commented Davis. “He was my childhood hero. Growing up as a kid I always watched Teddy’s famous TC-13 slice and dice his way to the front and win races at any cost like a true short track racer should. I wanted to be like him – he was and still is my idol. I had the awesome opportunity to race against him earlier in my career and became great friends over the years. I was actually going to race for him soon at Stafford Speedway. But now that he’s gone he’ll race with me Fridaynight. I hope one day I can leave the same impression on a young driver like he did for me. His passing leaves a huge void in this sport.”
Davis will get his first look at Kentucky’s 1.5 mile surfaceWednesday morning as part of the series re-scheduled open test session in preparation for Friday night’s race.
Making his ARCA debut this season, in five ARCA Series starts Davis has compiled one top-5 and three top-10 finishes.
Davis has made 18 career starts in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series totaling eight top-5 and 11 top-10 finishes. Last year Davis captured his first series win at Dominion Raceway and first pole position award at Mobile Int’l Speedway during the 2016 K&N Pro Series East season.
Since first strapping on the helmet in 2005, Davis has collected over 536 victories and 48 championships from all across the United States.
