NASCAR fans know all too well how the drivers in the sport are a tight-knit group. An act by a group of drivers from Las Vegas to give back to their community following the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history proves that.
Brendan Gaughan, Noah Gragson, Spencer Gallagher, Kurt and Kyle Busch and NASCAR on FOX pit reporter Jamie Little are teaming up to support the city and raise money for victims of the shooting that left more than 58 people dead.
The group created the website driversforvegas.com where people can go to purchase t-shirts and decals. All proceeds will go directly to families impacted by the tragedy.
“I’ve always considered myself lucky to be born and raised in what I tell everyone is the greatest city on Earth. Seeing the outpouring of love and charity from all over the world helps restore my faith in humanity. With so many NASCAR drivers from Las Vegas, I feel like it’s the least we can do to ask our racing community to band together in helping those who have been affected by this tragedy. Thank you to all those who have already helped. I have never been more proud to say that I am #VegasStrong,” Gaughan wrote on the website.
Support from the NASCAR community doesn’t stop there.
Gaughan and his family, who run South Point Casino in Las Vegas, offered free accommodations at the hotel for people travelling to Las Vegas to assist loved ones in the attack.
Gallagher’s family owns Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air. The airline offered free flights for family members affected by the mass shooting. They also accommodated Las Vegas travelers who wished to change their plans throughout the week without any fees.
“Las Vegas has always been there for and supported us, and this is a great opportunity for us to give back and be there for them,” Gallagher wrote on the website.
Fans can visit the website to purchase a #VegasStrong decal or a #VegasStrong t-shirt.
