Danica Patrick’s Daytona 500 ride rumors can finally be put to rest as she announced today who she will compete for in her final NASCAR race.
Patrick will drive for in the No. 7 Chevrolet for Premium Motorsports in conjunction with Tommy Baldwin Racing. The team will also have a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing for the 500.
Even better for Patrick is the race will be a reunion for her in her final start. She’ll reunite once again with crew chief Tony Eury, Jr. who was her crew chief for her very first NASCAR XFINITY Series start in 2010.
“I keep saying, I couldn’t have written a better story about how this would all fall into place – going with the flow is working out beautifully,” said Patrick. “I’ll be back in GoDaddy green, driving the No. 7 Chevrolet with Tony Jr. in my ear again. It all makes my last NASCAR race just that much sweeter.”
Patrick will also be locked into the event as the team will utilize its charter that is held by its No. 15 car to guarantee her a spot in the race for her one-off event.
Team owner Jay Robinson fielded a car in the Daytona 500 for Michael Waltrip last year. That race coincidentally happened to be his final start in NASCAR, and Waltrip finished the race in eighth. Robinson hopes his team can give Patrick a similar result.
“We’ve been working on this behind-the-scenes for a while,” said Robinson. “Now that we’ve finalized the deal, we’re 100 percent focused on getting the No. 7 GoDaddy Chevrolet ready for Daytona. Our team finished eighth in Daytona 500 last year and I know everyone here at Premium Motorsports is prepared to give Danica the best opportunity we can to get another great result as she runs her final NASCAR race.”
A paint scheme reveal for Patrick in her final NASCAR race which will be accompanied by long-time sponsor GoDaddy is expected within the next few weeks.
Patrick, who is also eligible to run The Clash at Daytona, will not participate in the precursor for the Daytona 500.
