Timothy Peters to Return to NCWTS at Martinsville

One of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ most successful drivers in recent years will return to the series at Martinsville Speedway after spending most of 2017 on the sidelines.

Timothy Peters lost his full-time ride in the Truck Series only five races into the 2017 season after Red Horse Racing, the team he had called home since 2009, closed operations. He ran three more races later in the year, but was left out of a ride for most of the year.

Now, the 10-time race winner will return to the seat of a truck at Martinsville, the same track he scored his first career win at in 2009.

Peters’ triumphant return will come driving for Ricky Benton Racing, who last entered a NASCAR race in the Daytona 500. It was the team’s first start in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. David Gilliland drove the team’s No. 92 Ford to a 14th-place finish.

Benton’s team has seen moderate success in the Truck Series. In 79 starts, they have 11 top-10s and 3 top-five finishes with a best finish of third on two occasions. Scott Riggs drove the team to a fifth-place finish at Martinsville in 2012.
