Kyle Busch will be without his usual crew chief at Michigan International Speedway as Eric Phillips, the man who led him to victory lane during the NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Pocono Raceway, is serving a one-race suspension for the car failing post-race inspection on Saturday.
Phillips has also been slapped with a $10,000 fine for the car failing height measurements. The car was found to be too high after inspection, which was an L1 infraction.
In addition to the suspension and fine, the team will be unable to use the six playoff points it earned during the race towards the championship. The team was also assessed a 10-point deduction in the owner’s standings.
Joe Gibbs Racing announced they will not appeal the penalty.
