Defending Daytona 500 champion, Denny Hamlin, will start from the rear of the field for Sunday’s race. Hamlin’s No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota failed inspection twice. The infraction was related to he rear toe-angle measurement on the car.
To understand toe-angle, toe angle is a measurement between the theoretical center-line of the tire/wheel assembly and the center-line of the car itself. If the tire is “toed-out” the distance between front edge of the tire and the center-line of the chassis and greater than the distance between the rear edge of the tire and the center-line.
Since the car failed this inspection twice, a crew member from the No. 11 team has also been ejected.
