They say that practice makes perfect. Friday, May 16th drivers and teams in the upstart Grassroots Racing Series will get the chance to find the perfect raceday set-up when Kawartha Speedway hosts an open test session, with stock cars taking to the track just after 1:00. As each new day dawns, series organizer and promoter Andrew McFadden gets closer to proving the naysayers wrong.
“There was a lot of internet chatter when we first started talking about bringing racing back to Kawartha and now people can see how committed we really are,” said McFadden. “Week by week, day by day and now, hour by hour we’re taking the next step toward achieving our goals. The biggest thrill I’ll have all year will be when we swing open the gates to let the first hauler into the pits for the practice gathering.”
The pre-season shakedown session will be the first laps turned on the 3/8th mile oval at Fraserville, Ontario under the Grassroots Racing Series banner. Opening night is Friday, June 6th so McFadden says he’s hoping to see a strong turnout of Late Model, Thunder Car, Mini Stock 4Fun and Legend teams who’ll tackle the track during the 8 race schedule. Teams from the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model and Modified ranks are also expected to seek some track time. It’s going to be an exciting moment and everyone is eager to have race cars rumbling around one of the finest facilities in the province once again.
“With the damp weather this spring affecting so many race teams and other speedways, we’re happy to give as many people who’d like the opportunity a chance to run some laps,” admitted McFadden. “We’re asking for $30 per car to register, whether they’re running with the Grassroots Racing Series or not and plan to hang around until 8:00 or 9:00, depending on the weather conditions, visibility and demand for track time.”
Long suffering fans can get a taste of the Grassroots Racing Series excitement during the May 16th practice period at Kawartha Speedway. Gate admission for spectators is free and while the stock cars take to the track just after 1:00, the Ontario Secondary School Challenge electronic vehicle demonstration begins at 10:AM. A snack truck will be available throughout the day to make sure everyone is refreshed and well-fed. There will also be a chance to pick-up some Grassroots Racing Series swag and be the first on their block to show their support for one of the most anticipated motorsports experiences of the season.
